I Voted!

This may not seem like a big deal to some, but to me, it was a major feat accomplished. I took both boys with me, Kingsley in the stroller and Charlie in the Bjorn. I should have, would have, could have done (and will do so in the future) the absentee ballot (or mail-in ballot), but with moving I forgot and actually registered by mail the last day allowed.

Charlie tore down all of the paper reminders and instructions in the booth. He was very upset that he was not allowed to chew on my ballot. Kingsley actually sat nicely in the stroller looking at books and eating goldfish crackers. There was no wait and the voting took place at our community's fire station, which was super cool since Kingsley could check out the fire trucks after I was done.

After hearing about long waits and lines and not knowing if I was actually registered properly, I almost didn't go. But then, I kept thinking about how I was going to answer that question in the future. You know, the one in which Kingsley or Charlie ask me *if* I voted (or even how I voted) in this historic election. I did not want to say that I didn't because Kingsley (or Charlie) was having a meltdown (etc.)--a big deal in the moment, but not a big deal when one looks at the big picture. So, I voted today---for myself, for my children, and because I CAN.

Yay for voting. The image of Charlie grabbing all of the papers and getting upset about not being able to eat the ballot really made me laugh. So familiar. I think Pete is finally doing better. He slept in his crib last night and only got up to nurse, HUGE improvement. He's doing really well today too, with the exception of going down for naps, but that is nothing out of the ordinary. Love the Halloween costumes! I was surprised that Pete didn't seem to mind at all that I had on a huge bright clown wig and nose. Didn't even notice really. Go figure.
